From Sapper to Assistant Site Manager
Darren Partridge served in the Royal Engineers for almost 6 years. Here, he explains how his career transition from Sapper in 22 Engineer Regiment to employment with Persimmon Homes is progressing.
"The Career Transition Partnership made me aware of an employment fair in Bristol where I began talking to Tommy Watson, National Armed Forces Resource Manager at Persimmon Homes. We had a discussion about my previous experience in the building industry and Tommy explained the benefits of working for Persimmon and suggested I obtain civilian qualifications to support my military experience. I went on to complete an SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) course and obtain my CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card.
"Following this, Tommy put me in touch with Martin Ward, the Construction Director of Persimmon's Severn Valley Region. After an interview with Martin it was agreed between Persimmon Homes and my Chain of Command that I would carry out work experience 2 days a week in order to learn the skills required to become an Assistant Site Manager for Persimmon Homes. I have now been doing this since the end of September 2014 and hope to enter employment with Persimmon during 2015. Everyone I have worked with so far has been very helpful, making the transition very easy."
