What are 'Live Chats' and how will they benefit you?

What is live chat?

Live chat gives you the opportunity to speak directly with key employers via text chat on the CTP website. The chat software enables you to type questions to representatives from many of the high-profile companies that work in partnership with the CTP to recruit ex-forces personnel. You can take part in the chat from home or work, using a computer or smartphone, and events take place over lunchtime - so there’s no need to book time off work.

How does it work?

There is no need to pre-register. We send emails to those Service leavers on our records who may be interested in the event – these emails are based upon the skills and preferences selected in your RightJob profile, so ensure you keep your details up-to-date. On the day, you simply go to the CTP website and find the relevant company’s page via our Employer Focus Directory.


How can I access live chat?

When a live chat session is under way, you will be able to get started by clicking on the live chat button in the top right hand corner of the company’s page. This button will only be visible when staff are available for you to chat with. Please be aware that we typically experience a high volume of Service leavers at the start of our live chat events, so the staff manning the live chat may take a few minutes to be able to respond to you.

You can use live chat in many popular web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari) and it works on many smart phones as well.

What details do I have to provide?

When you start a live chat session you will be asked for your forename, surname and an email address. You are not required to provide your Service number or any other confidential information.

What can I talk to the employers about?

This is about you and your career journey, so you can ask anything which might help you determine whether these companies might be a future employer. For example:
  • Learn about current and future job vacancies.
  • Discuss any training requirements.
  • Find out where your skills and experience could fit in.
  • Receive general company information.
  • Find out about upcoming events or initiatives.

Where will I find the next Live Chat Dates?

All Live Chats take place over a two hour time period and are advertised in advance on the CTP Events Calendar. Keep an eye on your inbox for emails about upcoming events too!
