Using Dropbox as part of your Transition Toolkit What is Dropbox?

Dropbox is a free and easy way to store all of your documents, photos, files etc where you can easily access them from any device. The major benefit of storing your CVs, Application Forms etc in Dropbox is you can quickly access them and share with others.

Never lose that important document again even if your PC crashes, or you misplace your phone or IPad; your documents will always be there on the Dropbox website.

When you sign up for Dropbox, you automatically get 2GB of storage space which is more than ample for storing your job search documents. You can get additional storage space by connecting with your Social Media accounts or inviting family and friends to join.

To use, simply download the application to your phone or IPad, open up the application and download or upload files quickly and easily.

Sharing Your Files

Imagine you are at an Employment Fair and you still haven’t quite decided which industry/employer you want to actively target so you have several copies of 3 or 4 differently targeted CVs. Rather than walking around with all your CVs, why not create a folder in your Dropbox entitled “logistics’ or ‘engineering’ or whatever industries you are currently aiming towards? Once you’ve done that, upload your targeted CV into the relevant folder and forget about them (until you need them!).

When speaking with an employer who asks you for a CV, just open up your Dropbox app, ask the employer for their email address, click the ‘share’ button and in seconds the employer will have the CV.

In using this method rather than handing out hard copies, you present a more professional image. You are not standing in front of a potential employer sifting through your various CVs to find the correct one before handing over. The employer is not laden down with a load of CVs they then have to take back and sift through; they have your electronic copy and can look over it on their device at their leisure.
