Supporting Chris Buller On His Resettlement Journey

Category: Success Stories Publish date: 06/07/2021

Supporting Chris Buller On His Resettlement Journey Chris Buller left the Royal Navy as a Leading Hand in 2020 after serving for more than 7 years. Having worked in a range of different locations throughout his time in Service, enjoying the teamwork and camaraderie, Chris decided it was time for a change and registered for support with Career Transition Partnership.

"The teamwork and lifestyle in the Navy was great. I learned a lot during my time and gained some solid qualifications and management skills."

Resettlement

Chris’ resettlement was then impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, which put some elements of his support on hold:

"Due to leaving during Covid, I wasn’t able to complete any courses or attend a Career Transition Workshop. I have however been back in touch with the CTP now everything is opening back up. They were very accommodating and assured me I can complete any courses I want.

"I also had a very helpful CTP Career Consultant who pointed me in the right direction prior to Covid and is now supporting me again as I look to attend some training courses."

While he wasn’t able to attend physical events due to the pandemic, Chris did make great use of the CTP website and its resources:

"I found RightJob very useful and secured my current role via the portal, so it was a huge help to me. I also used MyPlan, the Industry Sector Briefs and the informative videos; all of which helped me to prepare for civilian employment by ensuring I was fully equipped for job interviews and CV writing."

Successful Outcome

Chris is currently a Commissioning Manager for Logi-tek (UK):

"My job includes day-to-day management of resources and requires me to approach each task methodically with a problem-solving mind-set. I found the transition difficult at first – going from a physically demanding, highly pressured and regimented environment to a more mentally demanding role with a slower pace. But with the support of my Logi-tek (UK) colleagues around me, I was able to adjust and am now enjoying my new role."

Advice

As his closing words of advice to fellow Service leavers, Chris says:

"Make use of the resettlement tools available through CTP. The skillset and work ethic will already be there from your time in Service, so just top that up with relevant education and experience opportunities."
