Supporting Cameron Bell On His Resettlement Journey
Background

Cameron Bell left the Royal Air Force as a Senior Aircraftman in 2019 after serving for 6.5 years. After taking stock of his career and personal life, he decided to transition from the military into civilian life and registered for resettlement with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP).

"I thoroughly enjoyed the travel involved with my role, and was lucky enough to be able to travel all over the world. However, I wanted a more stable job and felt like I needed a change in my career."

Resettlement

Following his decision to transition from the RAF into civilian life, Cameron attended a CTP Career Transition Workshop (CTW).

"The CTW was actually really good and far more helpful than I expected. I found the transferable skills identification and confidence building activities extremely useful."

Cameron also undertook a Civilian Work Attachment (CWA) in order to boost his employability in the corporate world.

"I am currently on the RISE scheme with the civil service and they just offered me a 2 year fixed term appointment. It has helped develop my office skills and given me the experience of working within a large organisation."

Finally, Cameron mentions how he found his internship through the CTP’s online job search portal ‘RightJob’, stating how he found the online resource:

"Very useful. There’s a good range of roles available on there and I would definitely use it again."

Successful Outcome

Cameron is now a Vetting Officer for the HMRC, a role he found and applied for through RightJob. In his role, Cameron is responsible for facilitating and carrying out national security vetting for members of the civil service and contractors – a responsibility that his experience and existing skill-set has made him well equipped for.

Advice

As his closing words of advice to fellow Service leavers, Cameron goes on to say:

"Always be willing to give anything and everything a go. Even if you have no idea what you want to do, I found it best to just pick something and try it out."
