Resettlement Success: From RAF Sergeant to Area Performance Manager Why did you decide to apply for a career with Thames Water?"Twelve months ago, I was a Service leaver with an engineering background looking at which direction to take as I was nearing the end of my successful military career.  Having researched Thames Water on the CTP RightJob website I realised they were an employer I was interested in working for and booked a place at one of the CTP’s Employment Fairs after confirming they would be in attendance."

How did CTP assist with your resettlement?

"During my resettlement, I realised the many CTP opportunities that were available to me.   I attended the Career Transition Workshop and found the CV writing and interview technique sessions to be particularly useful.  I used the CTP video library for further interview technique advice and RightJob, which is where I carried out my research for Thames Water. 

Other CTP courses included the Finance Brief, and Interim Management, Contracting and Consultancy webinar.



All of the CTP courses and advice that I pieced together facilitated my successful transition out of the military.


During the Employment Fair in Bristol in 2018, I approached the Thames Water team and was able to confidently hand over my CV.  My original CV was very different to the one I submitted to Thames Water; the CV advice I received was very useful.  Although my first interview attempt was not successful, they clearly saw the potential, contacted me a week later and offered me another role.

After leaving the RAF in February 2019, I am now six months into an Operations role looking after five counties in the Thames Valley and thoroughly enjoying it."

What CTP support did you find the most useful?

"The CTP video library was incredibly useful and helped me prepare for my interview.   I also found their Employment Fairs to be invaluable and definitely gave me the exposure to different industries and helped with networking.  I attended two CTP Employment Fairs, one at the beginning of my resettlement and the Bristol one towards the end of my resettlement which led to a successful job offer with Thames Water."
