Police constable role


The role of police constable can be demanding but it's that variety which makes it one of the most rewarding jobs around. Every day presents a new challenge and you'll deal with different situations to make sure public order is maintained.

You'll be responsible for protecting life and property, as well as preventing and detecting crime and working as part of a close team; you’ll help to serve the diverse communities and businesses of Kent.

The job isn’t just about enforcement, you need to be able to build quality relationships with communities and be the reassuring and caring face that every victim and witness needs.

Join our team as a police officer and become part of the policing family. You'll receive a starting salary of £26,158 (this includes a £2500 south east allowance). Your salary will increase in yearly increments up to £43,630 within seven years.

We accept a minimum of four years’ military service with an exemplary discharge if you don’t have the required academic qualifications, which are two A Levels in any subject matter or Level 3 equivalent.

You will undertake initial training at Kent Police College in Maidstone, which takes 19 weeks. You will then move onto a district (operational police station) to undertake your tutorship with an experienced police officer in the public domain, and undertake crime investigation training.

Your probation will last for two years and you will be continually developing yourself in the role with the training we provide. At this point, if successful, you’ll be able to specialise in other roles.

Volunteers


There are also various volunteering roles available.
