Endless Possibilities with Altrad Unless you’re a passionate international rugby fan you may not have heard of Altrad, but as the global leader in support services with over 60,000 employees worldwide, we really think you should take a look.

(Don’t worry, I’ll explain the rugby link at the end!)

We’re an ambitious company that’s growing fast, providing highly skilled teams to operate in some of the most challenging environments in the world - from offshore oil and gas platforms to onshore chemical plants, power stations and nuclear facilities. We’re also helping to drive the UK’s energy transition, and every day our dedicated people help keep our nation’s vital infrastructure running with an unerring commitment to safety.

Interested? Read on to hear from some of our colleagues who’ve made a similar transition to the one you’re embarking on now!

Why work for Altrad?

"My name is Mike Butterwick and I joined Altrad UK as the Head of Talent Acquisition after 33 years of military service. I know first-hand the skills and experience ex-military personnel bring and I know that the business agrees. We want the military community to be part of our growing team and recognise that many of you will have the exact trade and engineering skills we need, others will possess the project management experience we’re after, and all of you - whatever your rank or service - will have the mindset to overcome obstacles and get things done. We like to say that the ingenuity of our people creates endless possibilities, and we know that ingenuity and the military go hand in hand. Have a read of some of our stories below."

Paul Ahmed wrote: “Having served in the British Army as a senior NCO, transitioning to civilian life was a daunting prospect. However, 6 years ago, I found a new professional home in the offshore industry. Choosing Altrad was an easy decision because of their strong support for Veterans. This commitment was evident from day one and reassured me that my skills and experiences would be valued.

"I now work as a rope access painter/blaster. It’s challenging and dynamic work, but the military has prepared me well and my transition has been remarkably smooth. The camaraderie, discipline, teamwork and focus that was a hallmark of my time in the Army is replicated here in the offshore environment. It’s safe to say I really enjoy what I do.”

Emma Stuart served 9 years as an Air Cartographer and Flight Operations Assistant in the RAF. She has just joined our nuclear team and says: "The skills and discipline I developed in the military have seamlessly translated to my role here. Altrad values the unique perspectives and dedication that veterans bring, they provide a supportive environment and have genuine opportunities for growth, making it a great fit for those looking to transition from the military to civilian careers.”

Jamie Martinez made the leap in 2015 after a full career in the REME. He first worked as an Improvement Engineer on a petro-chemical site and now works on a biomass thermal power plant: “I was always a keen advocate of LEAN methodology whilst serving, and the use of continuous improvement tools was second nature. Building trust with those around you is key for any form of change and establishing these relationships comes easy for ex-military personnel as we’re doing this all the time. Altrad have provided me with space to grow and to show what I’m capable of, and are now supporting me on a level 7 pathway for a Senior Leader Apprenticeship.”

Carly Atkinson was a medic and is now our Talent Development Manager: “During my time in the military, I developed a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence, and so I wanted to join a company where my values would align. In my current role I focus on developing our people through leadership pathways and further education, where I’m involved in numerous projects which continually challenge and motivate me. The company truly values its employees, fostering an environment where everyone has a voice. Altrad's 'work hard, play hard' culture makes it an exciting and rewarding place to build a career.”
