Read about Ross Thubron – Warrant Officer Class 1, Royal Corps of Signals now Contract Manager Mitie Care + Custody.

“I left the Army in May 2017 after almost 27 years of service and was employed by Mitie in Aug 2017 as the Integrated Contracts Manager for Cleveland Custody facility. On reflection I have to say even back at the interview stage I felt very welcomed by the team who really did create a fantastic first impression when I arrived for my interview. For me this was key because you simply do not get the second chance for that all important first impression. The interviewers conducted a very professional interview and really did set the ground rules, short and long term expectations and portrayed the company in the way you would expect.

After the interview , the Operations Director called me within 48 hours and I was offered the role which I accepted immediately. My gut feeling was this is a company I’d like to be part of. At this stage I was guided and supported every step by vetting and HR and once I commenced my role I was fully welcomed by all members of staff from day 1. I must give my Ops Director a lot of credit here for having the confidence and trust in me and offering me the role especially since I’d had no Police or Custody experience. Mitie have supported my transition at every stage and I have felt support is at hand whether it be the most simple question or a challenging matter.

For the first 6-12 months I still had a battle with myself adjusting to life outside of the military and often questioned my decision to leave, however, in time and once I settled into the role these feelings subsided and I now feel fully adjusted to life outside and confident in my role. It is so re-assuring to have such a supportive team around me. My work life balance is key and I seldom go home stressed about my work. I truly feel privileged to be part of such an outstanding team and long may this continue.“
