MacIntyre Charity Join our team in 2021

About us

MacIntyre is a national charity which provides learning, support and care for more than 1,200 children, young people and adults who have a learning disability and/or autism.

We were founded in 1966 by the visionary parent of a child with disabilities and have been growing steadily ever since.

Why work for us?

We believe that experience in social care isn’t essential for making a difference to someone’s life, but personality and a passion to learn are. Many of our teams are made up of individuals with a variety of career backgrounds, from lawyers to landscapers; chefs to mechanics, all looking for a change of career.

With experience working in challenging environments, ex-military candidates often have transferrable skills that can be applied to many of our roles at MacIntyre, including the ability to work well within a team, valuable communication skills and a strong work ethic.

Providing support for someone with a learning disability and/or autism can be challenging, but it’s without a doubt incredibly rewarding.

Full, free training provided

To help you offer exceptional support with confidence, we’re proud to offer free, sector-leading training opportunities to all of our employees, including a full induction when you begin. You’ll also have full access to our e-learning modules, which you can access at any time.

Career progression opportunities

Many of our Senior Managers have progressed within the organisation from Support Workers. As a key member of the MacIntyre team, you’ll have open access to all development and career progression opportunities where your skills and potential are recognised, rewarded and highly valued.

What will you be doing?

Currently, we have several vacancies across England and Wales. As a Support Worker you’ll be providing first-hand support for people with learning disabilities and autism; helping a person take part in their hobbies, learn new skills and become an active member of their community.

Where could you be working?

You could be working at our school, one of our learning centres, residential services, or in the community. Wherever you’re based, you’ll be supporting children, young people or adults who have autism or a learning disability to live a life that makes sense to them.

Benefits

We provide a range of benefits to reward and thank our staff which includes:

  • 30 days' annual leave including statutory public holidays (pro rata for part-time roles), Workplace Pension scheme
  • Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) to support your health and wellbeing, MacIntyre Perks which offers up to 6% discount off leading retailers including Tesco, Curry/PC World, Costa and many more
  • Access to the Blue Light Card which offers thousands of amazing discounts online and on the high street for emergency and social care staff, Enhanced DBS Certificate (cost paid by MacIntyre)
  • and much more!

Whether remaining in the same role with a different focus, or expressing an interest in one of the many development opportunities that have become available within the organisation, my managers have always been focused on supporting me to develop my skills and utilising them where they’re most needed.”
