The Business Case

Military service fosters leadership, organisational skills, resilience and many other unique qualities which are a great asset to the private sector. With rising employment levels, companies must compete harder to find qualified candidates. A growing number of employers are targeting veterans to fill their skills gap as they represent a ready-made source of top talent which businesses can tap into with the right recruitment process.

AVMI have created a veteran’s programme which has been designed and developed by Justin Paveley, Justin himself is an ex-paratrooper who joined the Audio Visual industry in 1999. Unless you’re in the know, getting to grips with the military environment and terminology can feel like a daunting task, with Justin’s leadership and combined support from current AVMI veterans who served in the Army, Navy and RAF, AVMI have a platform to deliver a career program that will support veterans finding employment in the Audio Visual Industry.

Quote from Justin Paveley on why AVMI have set this programme up

When I left the Parachute Regiment as an infantry soldier I did not qualify for a resettlement program or did I have any qualifications that would help me find employment in civilian life. I struggled for some time trying to find work, there were a lack of opportunities at the time. Just as I was ready to seek financial support I got my first job opportunity, a close friend needed a hand pulling cable for an audio visual company. I jumped at the opportunity with open arms.

I started working as a pair of hands with no engineering skills, I was told to learn on the job and ask questions. It took me a while to transition into a reliable install engineer, 19 years later and I was directing a projects department deploying some of the most prestigious Audio visual projects around the globe.

I have been privileged to work alongside a few veterans who been successful in the audio visual industry, I have found Service leavers to have qualities that fit well into our industry, they are used to working in highly demanding and pressurised situations and are skilled at problem solving. It makes complete sense to use our own experiences to develop this talent and help get veterans into work, I am very excited and honoured to be able to give something back to those who gave so much.
