Success at the East Midlands Employment Fair

On the 9th April 2015, the Lincolnshire Showground hosted the 2015 East Midlands CTP Employment Fair – read about the day and find out what you can expect when attending one of these events.

Whether you're ready to apply for live jobs or simply researching the market, CTP Employment Fairs offer a fantastic networking opportunity with the chance to meet employers who already recognise the skills and experience Service leavers can offer, along with Service support organisations, CTP staff and other Service leavers who are also going through the resettlement process.

The East Midlands Employment Fair attracted over 400 Service leavers, Veterans and those still serving but not yet in resettlement. Employers at the event represented a wide range of industry sectors and included both local and national organisations such as Anglian Water Services, Mercedes Benz, Vodafone and Walkers Snack Foods. Service leavers were also able to attend short presentations by Siemens, GE Aviation, Amazon and The IET and all were very much in demand.

The majority of employers in attendance commented on how impressed they were with the quality of Service leavers they met on the day, proving that employment fairs not only present a valuable opportunity for Service leavers to find out about job opportunities but also for them to promote the skills and experience that ex-military personnel can offer to organisations.

A representative from Jaguar Land Rover commented:

As always a very well prepared event filled with enthusiastic Service leavers keen to understand where their skill fit in to civvy street.

Another exhibitor from PlanET Biogas UK Ltd stated, “We will shortly be interviewing 2 candidates who visited the stand and expressed an interest in a role we are looking to fill”.

Upon leaving the Employment Fair, many Service leavers commented how they felt encouraged their skills were in demand and that they felt far more confident and positive for their futures post discharge. One attendee commented, “I am not sure what I want to do, so this was an opportunity to see the format, discuss potential employers and to see new companies that I may not have thought about”, whilst another said: "Good to see how variable I will be to some companies and to talk face to face with them instead of trying to find information on the websites. Really good day and would highly recommend to anyone, thank you."

The CTP team was also extremely impressed by the calibre of Service leavers who attended, commenting on the professionalism, conduct and character displayed throughout the day which helped create a real ‘buzz’ around the event.
