FAQs

RE-OPENING OF CTP CENTRES FROM 6TH JULY 2020

These FAQs have been created to respond to questions you may have in relation to adjustments that have been made to delivery of CTP services, as a result of the COVID-19.

  1.  When will CTP centres re-open, and which ones?
Where government guidance and host unit constraints permit, 7 of the 10 resettlement centres (RCs) will re-open on Monday 6th July to resume face to face services, in line with MoD social distancing policy and direction. The Resettlement Training Centre in Aldershot will also re-open on this date. In line with TESRR and local military direction, Rosyth, Northolt and Plymouth remain closed. We are working towards re-opening them in August and September.
  2. How will social distancing measures work within resettlement centres (RCs)?
Minimising footfall in RCs is necessary to enable social distancing measures to be maintained for the safety of both CTP staff and Service personnel undertaking authorised face to face training on site. TESRR have directed:

    a.
Minimising footfall in RCs. Minimising footfall in RCs is necessary to enable social distancing measures to be maintained for both CTP staff and Service personnel undertaking authorised face to face training on site. If Service leavers need to contact a member of resettlement staff they should do so by telephone or email in the first instance and an appointment will be arranged if appropriate. Drop-in consultations and queries will not be possible until further notice.

    b.
Remote working. In accordance with current government direction, those who can conduct their work remotely from home should continue to do so rather than travelling to a physical place of work. In line with this, Service leavers should expect that business which can reasonably be conducted over the phone or by other remote means will continue to be until further notice.
  3. How should I get in touch to book a course, workshop or appointment?
If you need to contact a member of CTP staff you should do so by telephone or email in the first instance and an appointment will be arranged if appropriate. TESRR have directed that drop-in consultations and queries will not be possible until further notice. The contact details of your local centre should have already been shared with you but they can also be found on the Contact us page on our website here.
  4. Will face to face CTP vocational training courses start running again?
Vocational training which has been moved online will remain in the same remote format until further notice. Courses which cannot be delivered remotely will recommence at the Resettlement Training Centre in Aldershot and across operational RCs from 6th July. Social distancing measures mean that the number of places will be reduced in most instances. Where demand exceeds supply, those personnel who are in their final six months of Service will take priority.
  5. Will physical workshops be delivered from resettlement Centres?
Delivery of physical CTWs and other workshops will resume from 6th July, as RCs start re-opening. Social distancing measures mean that the number of places will be reduced in most instances. Where demand does exceed supply, personnel who are in their final six months of Service will take priority. Some RCs may have the capacity to increase the numbers of workshops they can deliver; therefore, you are encouraged to continue to register your interest as this will influence availability.
  6. I have an appointment to attend a CTP centre - how will I know where I go once I get there and how to follow social distancing measures?
There will be clear signage throughout the centre indicating routes, desks available and areas of access.
  7. What should I do if I think I may have contracted COVID-19 or I am showing symptoms?
In accordance with government guidelines, if you are due to attend a CTP centre and are showing any symptoms associated with COVID-19, we respectfully request that you do not visit the CTP centre and contact our staff in your local RC or RTC to inform them. Contact details can be found here on our website.
  8. Will CTP staff be providing me with any face covering during my visit to the centre and what arrangements will be made to ensure my safety whilst on-site?
A comprehensive risk assessment, based on guidance from the HSE, MOD and ManpowerGroup has been carried out for each location and mitigations have been implemented. Our risk assessments are aligned to the BEIS ‘Guidance for People Who Work in or Run Offices, Contact Centres and Similar Indoor Environments’. Each CTP centre has a dedicated COVID-19 representative.

For the safety of yourself and others, we also expect all visitors to the centre and our staff to follow these simple actions in cleanliness and social distancing. These rules have been implemented for the safety of yourself and those around you. Anyone not adhering to these steps will be asked to leave to prevent compromising the well-being of others:
    • Regularly use the hand sanitisers that will be available at all entry and exit points
    • Use the anti-bacterial wipes provided to clean your desk space including computer keyboards, mouse and related accessories in classrooms, resource rooms, IT suites and examination rooms
    • Follow the staggered start times, break times and lunch times for courses and workshops, as advised by our staff
    • Adhere to the 2 metre social distancing measures at all times, as per government guidelines
  9. I am close to my discharge date and would like to attend a CTW but they are all at full capacity. What options do I have?
In the unlikely event that there is no availability for a CTW within your timeframe, we recommend you book a full guidance telephone call as soon as possible. In addition to this, we have a host of bespoke on-line activities to ensure you are fully supported and meet your resettlement needs.
  10. My local CTP centre hasn’t re-opened yet so can I attend a workshop at another centre but still have a Career Consultant assigned to me at my local centre?
This is a determination of your Chain of Command and local SRA, as this option may incur more travel and subsistence costs. If permission is granted by them, we can absolutely accommodate you.
  11. Can I still book onto a CTW or other workshop for a centre which isn’t open yet?
Yes you can still book for a future date, but we strongly recommend you maximise your resettlement period and should start your resettlement as soon as possible with a guidance session over the telephone.
  12. Can I still stay in military accommodation when attending my resettlement activity and are there COVID-19 precautions in place?
If you are in resettlement then you have entitlement to appropriate travel and subsistence. This falls outside the remit of the CTP and is decided by the parent unit and the unit near the resettlement centre so please discuss with your SRA.
  13. I would prefer to have my Career Consultant or CSA 1:1 session in person rather than virtually, is that possible?
You can have a face to face guidance session, but they will need to be carried out in a socially distanced and safe way and pre-booked via the host centre. Contact details for your local centre can be found here.
  14. Will physical events such as employment fairs recommence from 6 July too?
At this point in time, the government have not lifted restrictions on events taking place in the UK. This is to protect the safety of high volumes of individuals in close proximity and to minimise the spread of COVID-19. We are continuing to regularly run our virtual employment events and other online activities to ensure you still have ample opportunity to network with employers and find out about latest job opportunities. The programme is added to regularly so please check the event calendar on our website.
  15. I prefer undertaking online/virtual workshops/webinars/courses – will these continue or do I have to attend a centre?
The increase of online resettlement activities to our programme of webinars and Live Chats will continue until at least 1st September and will be reviewed after that. It is expected that we will have more blended delivery, incorporating both virtual and face to face delivery after that
  16. Will FARs be taking place on base units again, now things have opened up around centres?
TESRR have directed that FARs will remain as virtual events until 1st October. Dates are on the CTP website here.
  17. What should I do if the government impose a localised lockdown where I live or work and I am due to visit a CTP centre during the period of lockdown?
MoD guidance in the situation of localised lockdown is to ask Service leavers to contact CTP staff in your local centre to inform them. Contact details can be found here on our website. [Added 03/07/20].

  5. If my training course was cancelled due to COVID-19 how will I get a place on a future course date?
If you had booked a place on a CTP course but it was cancelled due to COVID-19, then you will be contacted by the booking team and offered a future date. A number of course places will be ringfenced and, where possible, extra courses delivered to accommodate you. The MoD has directed that priority will be given to those with only 6 months left to serve with future dates offered to those having an exit date after 6 months. [Updated 24/06/20].
  6. My course was cancelled part way through; will I have all of my GRT/IRTC reinstated so I can repeat it?
Yes via MoD F 2245 Annex H to JSP 534 which can be found in the footer of all pages on the CTP website, in the Quick Links drop down box. [Updated 17/04/20].
  7. Will I get a full refund if I have already paid for my non-refundable exam fees in advance?
n the first instance you must attempt to re-book the exam. If this is not possible, proof must be obtained and then you should claim via MoD Form 2245, Annex H to JSP 534 which can be found in the footer of all pages on the CTP website, in the Quick Links drop down box. [Updated 17/04/20].
  8. I have paid for my travel and accommodation in advance; will I be refunded for this if my course is cancelled?
Yes, if booked via HRG, this function will be carried out by them. If not, then use of the MoD Form 2245 is to be used with supporting evidence.
  9. I have used ELC funding to pay for my course, will this be reinstated?
TESRR policy states that “Any claimants who are attending courses or are intending to do so are requested to comply with Government guidance: The following Government guidance on GOV.UK must be followed: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection dated 18 May 20. If a learner must self-isolate, then all efforts will be made to offer an alternative option later on. Additionally, it is recommended you refer to the cancellation and reinstatement guidance found on the FAQs page (link here: http://www.enhancedlearningcredits.com/faqs). [Updated 21/05/20]
  10. Can my course be delivered virtually?
Due to the nature of how they are physically interactive, not all courses can switch to virtual as they are reliant upon using on-site via bespoke workshops with equipment and materials that relate to the course syllabus. However, we are able to provide a number of vocational training courses via virtual classroom as follows:
    • 6 day APM PMQ
    • 10 day APM PMQ
    • Prince 2
    • Management of Change
    • Management of Risk
    • Agile Project Management
    • Enterprise & Self Employment
    • Finance for Non-Financial Managers
    • Managing Safely (IOSH)

Yes. If online training is being completed during working hours, it should be taken as GRT; not to do so is fraudulent. If you cannot access a JPA terminal to apply for your GRT please contact your Unit HR Admin and they should be able to help you. JPA will be updated with your attendance and use of GRT retrospectively if required. [Added 09042020]
  12. My face to face course is no longer running on the scheduled date will you be delivering future dates to pick up those that courses have been cancelled?
We are in a fluid situation with coronavirus and every effort will be made to deliver courses that have had to be cancelled and dates will be published as soon as they are known. You will be asked to contact CBIC to confirm your intention of still requiring a place.
  13. I left the Service but the post-discharge CTP support I am receiving has been affected due to COVID-19.
CTP support post Service has been extended by 3 months from 24 months to 27 months to take into account COVID-19 disruption. [Updated 03/04/20].
  14. Why is my virtual training course the same price as the face to face training course?
Virtual classroom training is quite different to e-Learning. Our Virtual courses are delivered by the same trainer with the same maximum attendee numbers as classroom courses. You will be able to fully interact with the trainer and other class members, participate in group discussions and breakout rooms, view videos and boards, and have a very similar experience to that of classroom training. Some online pre course work will be required in advance, and course workbooks will be sent out by post wherever possible. A laptop or desktop PC with a webcam, microphone and speaker (or headset) will be required to complete any of our virtual courses and undertake the exam(s) from their current location. [Added: 01052020].

    TRANSITION WORKSHOPS & RESETTLEMENT CENTRES

  1. Can I extend to finish my resettlement?
This is a decision which will be made by individual single Service point of contact. Although access to CTP post-discharge resettlement entitlement has been extended by 3 months, in-Service extensions are at the gift of single Service points of contact, as per JSP 534. [Updated 17/04/20].
  2. Will I get deferred resettlement?
You may have the option to defer your resettlement to enable you to undertake resettlement post discharge. Please contact your single Service SRA for more information and guidance on deferral policy. [Updated 25/03/20]
  3. What happens to my resettlement if I sign back on?
As per JSP 534 which can be found in the footer of all pages on the CTP website, in the Quick Links drop down box.
  4. My RAB was cancelled how can I access CTP?
This will be decided by single Services. Some SRAs are already conducting telephone interviews to register Service leavers. Please contact your local SRA for more detail; this may include the use of paper-based forms as last resort.
  5. How can I get support now resettlement centres are closed?
Centres are closed to Service leavers due to MOD direction. CTP will continue to support Service leavers remotely via telephone, email and virtual delivery.
  6. When will my resettlement centre be open next?
This is unknown at this time and will depend on direction given by the MOD. We will communicate any updates to you via email.
  7. My transition (CTW/JSW, etc.) workshop is cancelled - what happens next?
CTP staff from your local centre will get in touch with you to book a one-to-one appointment to discuss how to best support you. We are looking at options for virtual delivery and will communicate these to you in due course.
  8. How can I contact CTP staff?
Email remains the most robust form of contact with CTP staff. The reason for this is that some telephone lines are inaccessible due to staff working remotely. We have updated the Contact Us page on the CTP website where new temporary numbers for each centre can be found. [Updated 25/03/20].
  9. How can I contact my 2nd Line whilst they are working remotely and not in units?
You are advised to make initial contact your local AEC2. They will be able to link you with a point of contact at a local level who will be able to address any questions you may have with relation to your resettlement provision. [Added 03/04/20].

There is a page on the RAF website devoted to re-joiners into the Royal Air Force, which includes information on eligibility and process.
  4. What provisions are replacing physical Employment Fairs?
We are offering employers alternative channels to engage with you including additional live chats and our new virtual employer events. The virtual events enable you to engage directly with multiple employers using video technology. We have successfully delivered a number of these events and they are very well attended. All CTP events are promoted on the Events Calendar (https://www.ctp.org.uk/events) on the CTP website, where you will find further information and directions for booking your place.
  5. Are Company open Days/Events still going ahead?
We have currently cancelled all activities that involve being in close proximity, in line with Government advice and to protect the wellbeing of all involved. We have a programme of Live Chats and other virtual events in place. Please check the events calendar on our website.
  6. Should I still apply for opportunities on RightJob?
Absolutely. Our Employer Engagement team are continuing to work with our employers to support them with their recruitment needs. As the employment market is changing at a fast pace, we would encourage you to apply for any suitable roles you see on RightJob as soon as possible and not delay making an application until nearer the closing date. With more people applying for roles, we are seeing some employers closing roles down at short notice as they are receiving a high number of applications. Our employment team are continuing to follow up with the employers to ascertain the outcomes of applications.

If you have completed your online profile, and opted in to receive updates, we will continue to send you suitable job matches as they are posted. If you have any questions about your job matches, please contact us via resettlementinfo@ctp.org.uk
  7. How can I access CTP Future Horizon support remotely?
If you are leaving the Services having served less than 4 years or through a compulsory discharge, you are entitled to CTP Future Horizons support https://www.ctp.org.uk/futurehorizons). If your unit is currently closed and you have not been able to get signed up to the programme, please contact Angela or Amanda by email at aheap@ctp.org.uk or akettlewell@ctp.org.uk and we will get back to you as soon as possible to support you.
  8. Are employers still recruiting?
There are tentative signs that hiring may now be starting to pick up as businesses start to reopen, but these are very early signs. All of our employers’ opportunities are promoted on CTP RightJob, so please do log in regularly as it is updated on a daily basis. It would also be advisable to take a moment to check that your RightJob profile is up to date to ensure you are matched to the right opportunities which meet your needs.

The number of candidates per role is on the increase and this is creating a very competitive employer led market for candidates; the result of this being that some vacancies will close very quickly. If you are applying for a role you will need to ensure that it done in good time with a well-tailored CV.

Employers have put many work attachments on hold at this time as they don’t have the capacity to conduct these due to factors such government guidelines on social distancing, operational capacity.
  9. Are employers still doing interviews?
The employers are still conducting interviews using video conferencing and telephone interviews and in some cases are just conducting initial screens until such time they are able to conduct full interviews so the time from interview to employment can be longer than usual at this moment. The CTP have a number of tools to aid you with conducting video interviews which should be utilised to improve your video technique. Please speak to your advisor for more details.
  10. What’s happening in the job market?
During COVID-19, recruitment and the employment market have changed significantly in a short amount of time. The number of opportunities is not at the levels they were this time last year, but the downturn is gradually flatting and in some sectors it’s on the increase again such as IT, Local Authorities, Public Sector. However, there are positive signs in the market that the number of new vacancies are starting to rise again particularly in areas such HR, Management and Transport. According to RightJob data. The rapid drop in opportunities, coupled with the rise in unemployment, now means that there are now on average 8.5 unemployed people competing for every job, compared with just 1.5 before this crisis began.

The CTP Employer Engagement team are continuing to engage with many employers who are still recruiting. These opportunities are advertised on CTP RightJob. Many employers are also engaged with our online employment events which you can find on the
events calendar on the CTP website.
