FAQs in relation to COVID-19

We understand that the growing situation regarding COVID-19 raises questions, and this page has been created to address as many of these as we can, from a CTP perspective. We are working closely with the MOD to ensure any changes to our resettlement programme are rescheduled as soon as possible and, where possible, we are working to increase our online activities so you can continue with your resettlement.

CTP staff remain fully operational to work remotely, are contactable, and very much still here to support you. Please email your usual CTP point of contact if you require any help with your resettlement.

The answers below reflect MOD guidance and policy and your Service Resettlement Advisor (SRA) will also be able to help, if you have any concerns on Service issues. If you have any remaining questions that aren’t covered, please do get in touch with us via resettlementinfo@ctp.org.uk

Please note that as the situation is ever evolving for all of us, we will, where possible put interim measures in place, in reaction to government advice and MOD policy. We will continue to keep you updated to the best of our knowledge.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING

Q. My Contract Funded course has been cancelled; will my GRT be reinstated?

Yes via MoD Form 2245, which is Annex H to JSP 534 and can be found in the footer of all pages on the CTP website, in the Quick Links drop down box.

Q. My Contract Funded course has been cancelled and I will not have time to do the course before my exit date; will my resettlement entitlement be deferred until after my exit date?

It may be possible to be granted an extension to complete resettlement activity. The first point of contact is your SRA who will advise you of your options.

Q. Will I get a full refund if I have already paid for my Non-Contract Funded course?

In the first instance you must attempt to rebook your course place for a future date. If that is not possible, then request a refund from the training provider. Should the provider’s terms and conditions not allow a full refund then apply for any outstanding funds via MoD Form 2245 Annex H to JSP 534 which can be found in the footer of all pages on the CTP website, in the Quick Links drop down box. As with all JPA claims, proof must be obtained from the training provider to demonstrate the difference between what was paid and the refund provided. If you have used ELCAS funding then please refer to ELCAS rules on reinstatement of your funding; your SRA can advise on this. [Updated 25/03/20].

Q: My course was cancelled part way through; will I get a refund?

You will have paid the provider the full cost of the course and so you can reclaim it via MoD F 2245 Annex H to JSP 534 which can be found in the footer of all pages on the CTP website, in the Quick Links drop down box. If you rebook your course, you will pay the provider again for the course. You will need to retain course cancellation documentation in the event of a JPA audit. If you have used ELCAS funding then please refer to ELCAS rules on reinstatement of your funding; your SRA can advise on this. [Added 25/03/20].

Q: My course was cancelled part way through; will I have all of my GRT/IRTC reinstated so I can repeat it?

Yes via MoD F 2245 Annex H to JSP 534 which can be found in the footer of all pages on the CTP website, in the Quick Links drop down box.

Q: Will I get a full refund if I have already paid for my non-refundable exam fees in advance?

Yes via MoD Form 2245, Annex H to JSP 534 which can be found in the footer of all pages on the CTP website, in the Quick Links drop down box. [Updated 25/03/20].

Q: Can I extend to finish my resettlement?

This is a decision which will be made by individual single Service points of contact. Although post-discharge resettlement entitlement has been extended by 3 months, in-Service extensions are at the gift of single Service POCs as per JSP534.

Q: I have paid for my travel and accommodation in advance; will I be refunded for this if my course is cancelled?

Yes, if booked via HRG, this function will be carried out by them. If not, then use of the MoD Form 2245 is to be used with supporting evidence.

Q: I have used ELC funding to pay for my course, will this be reinstated?

TESRR policy states that “Any claimants who are attending courses or are intending to do so are requested to comply with Government guidance: Stay at home guidance for households with possible coronavirus (COVID19) infection dated 16 March 20. If a learner must self-isolate, then all efforts will be made to offer an alternative option later on. Additionally, it is recommended you refer to the cancellation and reinstatement guidance found on the FAQs page (link here:http://www.enhancedlearningcredits.com/faqs).

Q: My course is pre-01st April and am using this year’s ELC. If my course is now delayed past April will the ELC be honoured as a pre-April?

A: Please speak to your single service representative who will make a decision on a case by case basis.

Q: Can my course be delivered virtually?

We have the opportunity to deliver the following vocational training courses via virtual classroom:

• 6 Day APM PMQ
• 10 day APM PMQ
• Prince 2
• Management of Change
• Management of Risk
• Agile Project Management

Where possible, we will add more to our course programme and will communicate additional virtual classroom courses to you via our social media and website.

Q: My face to face course is no longer running on the scheduled date will you be delivering future dates to pick up those that courses have been cancelled?

We are in a fluid situation with coronavirus and every effort will be made to deliver courses that have had to be cancelled and dates will be published as soon as they are known. You will be asked to contact CBIC to confirm your intention of still requiring a place.

Q. I left the Service but the CTP support I am receiving has been affected due to COVID-19.

CTP support post Service has been extended by 3 months from 24 months to 27 months to take into account COVID-19 disruption.

TRANSITION WORKSHOPS & RESETTLEMENT CENTRES

Q: Can I extend to finish my resettlement?

This is a decision which will be made by individual single Service point of contact. Although post-discharge resettlement entitlement has been extended by 3 months, in-Service extensions are at the gift of single Service POCs as per JSP 534.

Q: Will I get deferred resettlement?

You may have the option to defer your resettlement to enable you to undertake resettlement post discharge. Please contact your single Service SRA for more information and guidance on deferral policy. [Updated 25/03/20].

Q: What happens to my resettlement if I sign back on?

As per JSP 534 which can be found in the footer of all pages on the CTP website, in the Quick Links drop down box.

Q: My RAB was cancelled how can I access CTP?

This will be decided by single Services. Some SRAs are already conducting telephone interviews to register Service leavers. Please contact your local SRA for more detail; this may include the use of paper-based forms as last resort.

Q: How can I get support now resettlement centres are closed?

Centres are closed to Service leavers due to MOD direction. CTP will continue to support Service leavers remotely via telephone, email and virtual delivery.

Q: When will my resettlement centre be open next?

This is unknown at this time and will depend on direction given by the MOD. We will communicate any updates to you via email.

Q: My transition (CTW/JSW, etc) workshop is cancelled - what happens next?

CTP staff from your local centre will get in touch with you to book a one-to-one appointment to discuss how to best support you. We are looking at options for virtual delivery and will communicate these to you in due course.

Q: How can I contact CTP staff?

Email remains the most robust form of contact with CTP staff. The reason for this is that some telephone lines are inaccessible due to staff working remotely. We have updated the Contact Us page on the CTP website where new temporary numbers for each centre can be found. [Updated 25/03/20].

How can I contact my 2nd Line whilst they are working remotely and not in units?

You are advised to make initial contact your local AEC2. They will be able to link you with a point of contact at a local level who will be able to address any questions you may have with relation to your resettlement provision.

Employment, JOB-SEEKING & EVENTS:

Q: What provisions are replacing physical Employment Fairs?

We are actively working with our employers to offer them alternative ways to engage with Service leavers. The alternatives at this time include delivery of online Live Chats and promotion of vacancies on RightJob, we are also investigating other platforms for bringing Service leavers and Employers together in a virtual way. Please keep reviewing our events calendar for specific details.

Q: Are Company open Days/Events still going ahead?

We have currently cancelled all activities that involve being in close proximity, in line with Government advice and to protect the wellbeing of all involved. We have a programme of Live Chats and other virtual events in place. Please check the events calendar on our website. [Updated 25/03/30].

Q: Are employers still recruiting?

Employers are still recruiting but it does vary across the sectors and areas.  Most major employers are continuing with their recruitment activity but at a much slower rate than before. The Employer Engagement team are continuing to engage with employers to offer alternative channels to engage with the Service leaver pool such as increased capacity for live chats, webinars and online events where possible. Many Work attachments have been paused during this exceptional period as companies concentrate on operational capacity.

Q: Are employers still doing interviews?

The employers are still conducting interviews using video conferencing and telephone interviews and in some cases are just conducting initial screens until such time they are able to conduct full interviews so the time from interview to employment looks be increasing at this moment.  The CTP have a number of tools to aid you with conducting video interviews which should be utilised to improve your video technique.

Q: What’s happening in the job market?

The number of vacancies across most sectors for permanent staff looks to have reduced as companies concentrate on resilience during this period however there has been a boom in short term contracts across most of the major supermarket and logistics chains, these are often completed through to employment at a fast pace as the companies try to upscale staff to meet demand.

The opportunities are often in the distribution and stock replenishment areas and in most cases night-time work but not all. This type of recruitment is generally more localised to individual stores rather than national campaigns. Some sectors are worst affected than others such as the hospitality and retail sector with many companies pausing recruitment at this moment in time.

The Sectors that look to be still recruiting are Logistics, Engineering, Public Services – Short Term again, IT.
