NORTHERN REGION EMPLOYMENT FAIR

05/07/2010

The CTP's Northern Regional Team recently held their employment fair at the Pavilions of Harrogate. These events are always greatly received by both the Service leavers and exhibitors who attend and this one was no exception!

As ever, military personnel did themselves proud and even the car park attendants commented that "every single person coming through the gate were the best people we have ever dealt with. We only wish more people were like that!" Over 300 Service leavers attended on the day, some coming from as far afield as Cyprus and Wales.

Most of the 50 exhibitors were employers from local and national businesses, seeking to meet potential new employees for their organisations and who "value the working ethos of military personnel." Before the event started, our Employment Consultants calculated that there were in excess of 800 job vacancies available in the room. To date, we know of four Service leavers who actually secured jobs on the day, with many more having arranged interviews.

"My skills and qualifications are applicable to more employers than I realised."

Some employers conducted informal interviews in quiet areas of the exhibition hall and CTP career consultants were on hand throughout the day, to give career guidance and review CVs. Our team of employment consultants were also there to provide information about jobs and other career opportunities.

Along with some regular employer exhibitors, there were a few new ones this year:
Paragon Creative of York, who are looking for highly innovative technical staff and were delighted at the numbers they met who not only had the right skills but also the right attitude!

Royal Mail and Amazon and some care organisations, were also new exhibitors and all recorded extremely positive outcomes. There was a great deal of interest around the Morgan Hunt stand who recruit for the education and training sectors as well as UBU who recruit for the care sector caring for adults with learning difficulties as well as jobs in the technical and logistics part of the organisation.

One attendee who left the Forces almost a year ago and is now looking to change roles, said "I had no idea that these job fairs were so good - if I had known I would have attended while I was still serving."
