Types of Events
We organise different types of events throughout the UK each year. The purpose of these is to give Service leavers the opportunity to meet employers, learn more about different industries and get a feel for the employment market in general. The types of events we hold are:
- Employment Fairs
- Industry Awareness Days
- Company Presentations
Employment Fairs
Typically held in external venues in major cities, these events are normally attended by between 50-80 different employers or employer organisations, dependant on the size of the venue. The will set up stands that you can visit in order to ask questions which the employers are very happy to answer and provide information about their organisation and the opportunities available.
The whole event provides an excellent opportunity to gain ideas about your future career, find out about training options and network with potential employers.
We encourage Service leavers to take along plenty of copies of their CV to these events as employers will be more than happy to collect CVs from potential candidates for vacancies they have on offer.
Industry Awareness Days
These events focus on a particular industry sector and several employers from different organisations will talk about their industry and the opportunities it offers. They are normally held in RRCs and enable you to gain a general overview as well as meet people and ask specific questions. Some companies will hold informal interviews on the day and if successful, you could be invited along for a formal interview at a later date.
Company Presentation
Similar to Industry Awareness Days, these events take place in RRCs and tend to focus on one particular Company which will be represented by members of their staff.
The event usually consists of a presentation about the company and employment opportunties available. This is sometimes followed by a buffet lunch which provides an excellent opportunity for the company representatives and Service leavers to mingle and speak informally.
Depending on how the company wish to run the presentation, informal interviews sometimes take place after lunch which can result in a Service leaver being invited to a formal interview at a later date.
