CTP Vocational Training Courses
The CTP offers over an extensive range of job-related courses at the Resettlement Training Centre (RTC) in Aldershot and other CTP Regional Resettlement Centres (RRCs). A wide range of subjects is covered with departments dedicated to Management, Electrical Engineering, Building Trades and IT. Many courses result in recognised qualifications, while others can lead to employment with companies who have established links with the RTC. Courses are constantly updated to reflect new qualifications and employment market trends and offer exceptional value for money to the Service leaver. More details of the courses can be found on the Training Course Booklets page on this website.
Booking a CTP Training Course
The CTP operates a centralised Course Booking & Information Centre (CBIC) which deals with all Contract Funded and Non-Contract Funded course bookings and payments. They can be contacted on 02894 456172/182/208 or mil 9491 56172/182/208. Please call the CBIC in the first instance for bookings, payments and general course information. If your query is more course specific then please contact the RTC on 01252 348637/519 or mil 94222 3637/3519.
Types of Training Courses Available
There are two types of training courses available: Contract-Funded and Non-Contract Funded. Both types of courses can be booked over the telephone with the CBIC and the place will be held provisionally for up to 28 days; a F363T should be submitted within that timeframe to secure it. These should be faxed to 02894 421638 or mil 9491 31638. A Non-Contract funded place is only secure once payment has been received.
Joining Instructions (JIs) will be sent 10 weeks prior to course start date or immediately if the course is booked within that period. For Non-Contract funded courses, payment is required and that is to be received by the CBIC as soon as possible after booking to secure the place. If the course is booked near to start date than immediate payment is required; it can be taken by credit or debit card over the phone at time of booking.
Contract-Funded Courses
These are paid for centrally by MOD and attending these will use up some or all of your Individual Resettlement Training Costs grant (IRTC) entitlement. Contract-Funded courses last between 5 and 20 working days and are charged at a daily rate of £26.70, which is automatically deducted from your Individual Resettlement Training Costs grant (the IRTC grant - see Allowances and Grants) IRTC will only cover 20 days of Contract-Funded courses. No money physically changes hands for these courses but there may be associated examination fees and these must be paid in advance at time of booking. Such exam fees are partially refundable under the SLC scheme.
Non-Contract Funded Courses
Non-Contract Funded courses are delivered by Right Management and are not paid for centrally by MOD so if you wish to attend any of these courses, you will be required to pay yourself. However, you can use your IRTC grant or perhaps ELC grant* to pay for (or partially pay for) these courses. Non-Contract Funded courses are individually and competitively priced and details can be found on the Training Course Booklets page on this website. All fees (course fees and some exam fees) must be paid as soon as possible after booking a place and in advance of the start of the course.
* Only Level 3 and above courses are eligible for this funding.
Standby Places
The CTP also operates (on a spare places only basis) a Standby/Payment Training scheme for the above courses. Bookings are not confirmed until 10 days before the start and attendees are charged £15 per day on this scheme.
The scheme is open only to CTP registrants and for CF courses. It must be demonstrated that the IRTC grant has been exhausted on External Training, or through the deductions made from IRTC as a result of attending a CTP vocational course.
Any GRT available after exhausting IRTC may be used on this scheme. If your GRT has been used up, annual or terminal leave may be used instead, although then you will not be on duty as you would be if training during GRT. Payment for the whole course is required on day one.
The Tri Service Resettlement Manual (JSP 534), para 0410, contains further details about this scheme.
