CTP Vocational Training/RTC Courses

The CTP offers over 50 job-related courses at the Resettlement Training Centre (RTC) in Aldershot and other CTP Regional Resettlement Centres.  A wide range of subjects is covered, from management training in various employment fields, through to trade skills and security. Many courses result in recognised qualifications, while others can lead to employment with companies who have long links with the RTC.

Contract-Funded and IRTC-Funded Courses

There are two types of courses at the RTC: Contract-Funded and IRTC-Funded. Both types of courses can be booked over the telephone and the place will be held provisionally for up to 28 days; a F363T should be submitted within that timeframe to secure it.  Joining Instructions (JIs) will be sent on receipt of the F363T. If, after submission of F363T, no JIs are received within 14 days SLs are advised to contact the RTC to confirm its receipt as they sometimes go astray.  For IRTC-Funded courses, payment is required and that is to be received by the RTC no later than 6 weeks prior to course start date or immediately if booking within that period.

Contract-Funded Courses

These are paid for centrally by MOD and attending these will use up some or all of your Individual Resettlement Training Costs grant (IRTC) entitlement. Contract-Funded courses last between 5 and 20 working days and are charged at a daily rate of £26.70, which is automatically deducted from your Individual Resettlement Training Costs grant (the IRTC grant - see Allowances and Grants) . IRTC will only cover 20 days of Contract-Funded courses. No money physically changes hands for these courses but there may be associated examination fees and these must be paid 6 weeks ahead of the start of the course.  Such exam fees are partially refundable under the SLC scheme.

IRTC-Funded Courses

These are Non-Contract-Funded courses and are not paid for centrally by MOD so attending these courses will cost you money. However, you can use your IRTC grant or perhaps ELC grant* to pay for (or partially pay for) these courses. [* Only Level 3 and above courses are eligible for this funding.] IRTC-Funded courses are individually and competitively priced and details can be found in the RTC Course Booklet on this website. All fees (course fees and some exam fees) must be paid 6 weeks ahead of the start of the course.

Standby Places

The CTP also operates (on a spare places only basis) a Standby/Payment Training scheme for the above courses. Bookings are not confirmed until 10 days before the start and attendees are charged £15 per day on this scheme.

The scheme is open only to CTP registrants. It must be demonstrated that the IRTC grant has been exhausted on External Training, or through the deductions made from IRTC as a result of attending a CTP vocational course.

Any GRT available after exhausting IRTC may be used on this scheme. If your GRT has been used up, annual or terminal leave may be used instead, although then you will not be on duty as you would be if training during GRT. Payment for the whole course is required on day one.

The Tri Service Resettlement Manual (JSP 534), para 0410, contains further details about this scheme.

Computer Courses

Some computer courses are also run by the CTP.  These have different entry levels demanding various existing IT skills.  Details can be found in the RTC Course Booklet on this website.
