Allowances and Grants

The Standard Learning Credit (SLC) is available to all personnel and may be used to assist with resettlement activities. For more details about how this can help towards funding your resettlement activities refer to the current DIN or your Education or Resettlement advisor.  You can also use the SLC towards tuition costs incurred under the Standby/Payment Training scheme mentioned above.

The Enhanced Learning Credit (ELC) can be used for resettlement purposes. Please refer to the relevant DIN.

Training Grants

The Individual Resettlement Training Costs (IRTC) grant is provided to all eligible and entitled Service leavers as a contribution towards the costs of training, either internally at the RTC and selected RRCs, or with an external training organisation.

IRTC is payable towards tuition fees up to a maximum of £534. Each day taken on a CTP training course (but not the CTP workshops or briefings at RRCs) reduces the grant by £26.70.

For courses at the RTC or selected RRCs, the grant will buy 20 days of contract funded training.
The IRTC grant may be used to pay for Distance Learning courses.  For full guidance on IRTC and how to claim it, contact your Service Resettlement Advisor or look at the Joint Service Resettlement Manual (JSP 534)  - viewable in the Key information section.

IRTC payments are authorized by Service Resettlement Advisors using Mod Forms 1748 and 1749.  See MoD Forms in the Key information section.

Claims for travel and subsistence allowances on all approved briefings, training, attachments, workshops and interviews/consultations may be made, in accordance with single Service regulations - the Tri Service Resettlement Manual Section 5 refers. You should remember if you use IRP that subsistence does not apply, although you can claim for travel from the allocation of claims/warrants available under GRT.

Standby Places

Standby bookings are made when the entire IRTC grant has been used. This is not a guaranteed placement and you will not be notified until 10 days before the start of the course whether or not you have secured a place.

  • Standby bookings are priced at £15 per day plus any exam fees on contract funded courses.
  • Courses can be booked up to two years after leaving the Services on a standby basis.
  • Service leavers not eligible for the IRTC grant may use their Standard Learning Credits to buy internal training.
