Graduated Resettlement Time

This is an official duty allocation of time away from your place of work to make use of the various resettlement activities outlined in this guide. GRT is an entitlement and applies to personnel who will have completed 5 years time served by the time of their discharge, if they entered the Services prior to 1 Sep 2002, or 6 years time served by discharge if entered on or after 1 Sep 2002, subject to usual Service terms and conditions, or those discharged on medical grounds.

The principle behind GRT is that increased length of service results in additional time for resettlement. GRT can be used for any combination of resettlement activities outlined in this guide, normally up to 2 years before your discharge date. The type of discharge you are leaving under affects the amount of GRT:

Normal Discharge if you have completed your contract/engagement/commission, or have given notice of your intention to leave in accordance with the regulations for your Service.

Medical Discharge if you are leaving the Services on medical grounds.

The Table below illustrates the available GRT based on length of service and discharge type.

The number of travel claims available to access events is also linked to the amount of GRT that you are eligible for or entitled to. The following table illustrates the number of travel claims that can be made under the GRT system.

These travel claims are available for use within the United Kingdom, or within the borders of the country if you undergo an attachment overseas when based overseas.
